The Two Key Projects of the SIOC, CAS Passed the Acceptance of NAFC

On 14-15th of January 2008, the 7-member expert panel of Department of Chemical Science of NSFC leaded by Academician Yangjie Wu carried out final check and acceptance on the two key projects which are "Transition Metal-Catalyzed Carbon Bond Activation and Reactive Control" and "Oriented Organic Synthesis Heteroatom Chemistry" in Shanghai. The Academician Guoqiang Lin, Director of the Chemistry Department of NSFC. Yongjun Chen, Deputy Director of the Chemistry Department of NSFC and Canping Du Director of Division of Organic Chemistry of NSFC, Professor Shizheng Zhu of Department of Organic Chemistry of NSFC attended the meeting.

1. The "Transition metal-catalyzed chemical bonds of carbon activation and reactive control" key projects were in charged of by Academicians Shengming Ma. The important progress had been made in the following three areas during four years.

(1)The study of carbon - hydrogen bond activation and carbon - heteroatom double bond and carbon-Pd bond reaction.

It was found the selectivity and C-H bond activation of indole system. The new molecular structure was built based the indole system by further metal - carbonation reaction. The C-H bond of rich electronic arene activation was realized. Systemic study of the Grignard type reaction involved in divalent palladium-catalyzed organic boron reagents, and achieved high enantio-selectivity in some of the reaction system.

(2)The methodology study of unsaturated hydrocarbons and heteroatom metal methylene cyclopropane derivatives reaction

 Systematic study of carbon - carbon multiple bond of the unsaturated system to participate in the formation of a new type of metal reagents and related applications, the realization of the functional groups of the stereoselective synthesis of olefins. By studying the transition metal involved in the sub-alkyl cyclopropane reaction flavanone achieved ox-benzo-five or six-member ring of high-performance synthetic compounds.

(3)The methodology study of Allenic based reaction involved transition metal

By ESI-MS technology, it was achieved a certain reaction intermediates capture. The reaction mechanism was detailed studied. And systematic studied a variety of compounds Allenic cyclization reaction on this basis. Development the high-effect and high-selective methods of synthesis ring compounds. It was successful construction of the steroidal type molecular structure in the study of 1,5 - double-ene compounds reaction. This fully demonstrated the potential application value of Allenic chemical in organic synthesis.

2. The "organic-oriented chemical synthesis of heteroatom" key projects charged by Yong Tang. It studied the highly selective ylide small cyclization, the new ylide design, synthesis and new reaction, as well as the Lewis acid on the heteroatom carbon-carbon bond and carbon-heteroatom bond formation, selective cutting and so on. They develop a new type of ylide reagents, heteroatom Lewis acid catalyst and successfully applied to highly selective cyclization reaction, tandem reaction and chiral Allenic synthesis reaction.

The project team was published 73 papers on J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Org. Lett., J. Org. Chem. and other important international academic journals. They also obtained four patents authorized.

The expert panel heard the final reports. After serious discussion, it was agreed that the project team completed a comprehensive research projects, obtained important progress. The two key projects were also rated as excellent.
