In honor of Wang You, an outstanding organic chemist in China and for the purpose of carrying forward the scientific spirit of the older generations of scientists, the “2008 Wang You Science Lecture” was held in Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry on the morning of September 11; Director Jiang Biao presided over the activity of “Wang You Science Lecture”. In this lecture, Min Enze, who won the National Top Science and Technology Award in 2007 and is academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Research Institute of Petrochemical Technology, was invited. Academician Min Enze is the founder of oil refining catalysis application science, pioneer of independent innovation of petrochemical processing technology and frontier of green chemistry in China.

Academician Min Enze gave an excellent lecture titled “Exploration of Independent Innovation of Petrochemical Processing Technology” to teachers and students in the Institute. He talked about its experience in independent innovation on the road of science, by two cases of molecular sieve catalytic cracking catalyst (Technical revolution of petroleum refining industry In the 60's) and innovation and integration of amorphous alloy catalyst and magnetic stationary bed reaction process (First prize of the National Award for Technological Invention in 2005), which can embody original innovation and integration innovation spirit and the cases of digestion, absorption and re-innovation of the introduced equipment. Original innovation must adhere to technical progress based on original scientific knowledge; Innovation comes from association and association stems from erudition, extensive knowledge and collective intelligence; the teamwork spirit to let each person do his best and the spirit of overcoming difficulties continuously and sticking it out are also required. Academician Min specially looked back on the program of “Innovation and Integration of amorphous alloy catalyst and magnetic stationary bed reaction process” which won the first prize of the National Award for Technological Invention, through twenty years’ hard exploration, research and development, and it is a process of overcoming difficulties continuously and sticking it out. In the end, Academician Min shared his doggerel with teachers and students:

“Market demand is driven by curiosity, hard thinking is full of interesting, you will be suddenly enlightened when inspiration appears, and you will be delighted to find innovation, worry always follows delight due to persons or conditions. There is also frustration of experiment and even the obstacle of competitors, it seems to eat “spicy hot pot”, which is hot but you love it. If you stick it out, you can obtain achievements finally”
