“The Third ChemComm International Symposium” Held in Shanghai

On February 20, 2009, the Third ChemComm International Symposium was held in Shanghai Education Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This symposium was sponsored by Royal Society of Chemistry and undertaken by the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, CAS. Nearly 300 delegates coming from Shanghai scientific research institutions, universities and enterprises attended this Symposium.

The opening ceremony of the Symposium was presided over by Researcher Ding Kuiling, the deputy director of Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry. Dr. Sarah Thomas, the editor in chief of British ChemComm Journal, Researcher Jiang Biao, the director of Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, CAS, made welcome speech respectively, welcoming the attending of teachers and students, hoping to provide incentive and friendly communication atmosphere for scientists, promoting knowledge propagation and frontier exploration and establishing the cooperation between research institutions and scientific research personnel.

The theme of this Symposium was organic chemistry and six specially-invited repots and wallnewspaper exhibition were arranged. Professor E. Peter Kundig at the University of GENEVA Switzerland, Professor Keiji Maruoka at the Kyoto University Japan, Professor Sue Gibson at the Imperial College London, Academician Lin Guoqiang and Researcher Hou Xuelong at the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry as well as Professor Jin Guoxin at the Fudan University were invited to make specially-invited reports.

The ChemComm International Symposium is convened once a year, focusing on one theme in the field of chemistry, and is held in three cities of the host country. It promotes communication and cooperation through the face-to-face friendly and profound communication among scientists. The 1st ChemComm International Symposium (December, 20007) focused on polymer science and was held in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou of China, the 2nd ChemComm International Symposium (November 11, 2008) focused on supermolecule chemistry and was held in Seoul, Taejon and Pohang of South Korea. This International Symposium will also be held in another two citiesBeijing and Chengdu.
