Professor Timothy R. Newhouse of Yale University, a distinguished scientist under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) President’s International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI), visited CAS’s Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry on March 14.
CAS Member You Shuli presents Professor Newhouse with the CAS PIFI Distinguished Scientist certificate. He presented a seminar on “Computationally Augmented Total Synthesis” and engaged in academic discussions with the institute’s faculty and students regarding the application of artificial intelligence in synthetic chemistry.
The research objective of the chemistry professor is to develop chemical technologies and computational approaches to enable the step-efficient synthesis of structurally complex natural products with potential applications to neuroscience. Due to his outstanding contributions to the research of natural product synthesis, he has received important international awards such as the Sloan Research Fellowship, the Amgen Young Investigator Award, and the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award.
