The 9th Lecture of interdiscipline of the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry took place in the hall of the library building on the afternoon June 28th, 2008. The lecture, which was hold by Mr. Guoqiang Lin, Headmaster of the Academic committee, invited Mr Huilin Wan, academician in Xiamen University with the topic of the selective oxidation of light alkane and the mechanism of the chemical bond activation and transformation in hydrogenation with CO.

On behalf of the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Mr Lin appreciated Mr Huilin Wan’s coming for the lecture, and gave a brief introduction of Mr. Wan’s experiences. Then he awarded Mr. Wan the certification of interdiscipline lecture of Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry.

First, Mr. Wan introduced his research background. He maintained that the challenges to meet the state strategy of the renewable energy technologies development is the molecular mechanism study of light alkane oxidation and the selective control and increase of F-T products. Then he mainly introduced the mechanism of C-H bond activation and the relation between this activation and the property of the active center. He used the selective oxidation of propane to acrolein as an example to illustrate the role and mechanism of the key components of the catalyst. Besides, He introduced other studies like the mechanism of partly oxidation of methane to syngas and the existence and property of the active oxygen such as lattice oxygen during the reaction of selective oxidation of light alkane. After his lecture, Mr. Wan answered the commonly interested questions in detail.

Over 100 researchers and graduate students in Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry attended the lecture.
