In the morning of March 4, 2009, the 13th interdisciplinary seminar of the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry was hold in the reporting auditorium of the library of the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry. This seminar was presided by researcher Ding Kuiling, the Deputy Director and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry. The specially chaired person was Professor Xu Jian, the Chemicals Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, whose title was “The National 863 New Material Field’s Strategic Deployment and Progress”. Firstly, Ding Kuiling thanked Professor Xu Jian for his coming to our institute and doing of the seminar, and then briefly introduced Professor Xu's experience and research content and issued the interdisciplinary seminar certification of the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry to Professor Xu. Some researchers and more than 100 of workers and students attended the seminar.
Professor Xu Jian now is the chief expert of the expert group of the new materials field of the 863 Plan of the national "Eleventh Five-Year Plan", the chief expert of the National 973 Plan project and the national basic science and technology condition platform project, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Materials Research Society, Committeeman of the Chinese Chemical Institute’s Polymer Committee, and Vice Secretary-general of Beijing Municipal Chemical Institute. He is also the deputy editor-in-chief of the “Chinese Polymer Bulletin” and "Chemical New Materials" and member of an editorial board of several academic journals, part-time Professor of Beijing University and other universities and Academic Committeeman of the Key Laboratories of seven countries and departments.
In this seminar, from the angle of our national material field’s development strategy, Professor Xu introduced to the public the new material field’s related deployment, progress, mechanism innovation and management experience, etc., and gave the public some valuable suggestions on their applying for the relevant science and technology plans. He suggested that, when writing the science and technology prospectus, not only the experts of the other professions should be made discovered the application content’s importance, but the same professional experts should also be made discovered the application content’s depth. Professor Xu cited Guan Zhong's discussion and elaborated the importance of project, platform and group-building. He said that the projects’ establishment was just like fertilizing the tree valley, which was the one-year plan; and that of the platform is just like erecting trees, which was the ten-year plan; and that of the research group was correspondingly just like cultivating the talents, which was the hundred-year plan. Professor Xu also earnestly taught the young students at the presence to be of the mind of the public, did not only to look at the successor’s glory, but to pay more attention to the arduous struggle before success.
After the end of the seminar, Professor Xu answered the issues in which the public interested.
